Shaun (ショーン Shōn?), is one of the side protagonists in the Shadows House series. He is a "Living Doll" working as a servant in the house and acts as John's face.
Appearance[]
Shaun is a young boy with short dark hair, greyish-purple eyes, and pale skin. He usually wears the standard male "Living Doll" uniform or a portrait when serving as John's "face". He's also been known to wear glasses in private since John doesn't need them.
Before entering the House, he wore a white dress-shirt, dark-blue pants with suspenders and black shoes as well as his glasses.
Personality[]
Shaun is quiet, intelligent and in tune with his surroundings. His top priority is taking care of his master, John. He's hardworking and doesn't fight unless provoked. He's very caring towards his friends and has been known to be quite blunt and sassy. He's on good terms with his master and isn't afraid to speak up if he disagrees with him.
Early life[]
John used to attend school in Mirrorside Village along with Patrick, Louise and Shirley. Judging by comments from the headmaster, he was the top student. He often got into fights with Patrick, leading to them both getting reprimanded by their teacher. He was good friends with Shirley and a good older brother to his two siblings, because of whom he waited until the last moment to be selected.
On the day before the selection, while going home with his siblings, John noticed Shirley dropped her circus ticket and came to return it. She told him that she didn't want to attend the selection because of her fear of being a burden but John reassured her and changed her mind about it.
The 4 of them went to the circus where they met a nameless orphan girl named, Emilico. They decided to help her get into the selection with her using a fake name - "Kate". The next morning, John, Louise and Patrick came to Shirley's house, where they helped "Kate" get ready. John tried to style her hair similar to his little sister's. Patrick's words about "outer appearances being important", insipired him to hide his poor eyesight to seem more capable for work in Shadows House,
After the selection, John, along with others, was brainwashed via coffee and brought into the House, where he was approached by a morph.
Plot[]
Phantom Incident Arc[]
After a morning mass cleaning, every Living Doll is gathered in the main hall and Barbie exclaims a group has slacked off, causing the Phantom Incident. Barbie questions each team, becoming extremely strict with Rosemary's group. Shaun interrupts Barbie's lecture by walking between her and Emilico, blaming his poor eyesight. Barbie reprimands him along with a clumsy newcomer, Rum. Barbie called Emilico a "sunshine", Rum good for nothing, and Shaun a black sheep. Barbie orders the three of them to do night patrol as punishment, tasking them to find the cause of the Phantom Incident or end with Rum's Disposal. The three of them patrol for 5 nights, becoming close friends. On the last night, a robed figure appears, scaring off Rum. Emilico, Shaun and the robed shadow search the manor to find her. They find Rum in a soot treatment facility and find a broken door, causing soot to leak which was the cause of the incident, sparing Rum.
The Debut Arc[]
During the night before the Debut, John tries to wear fake glasses to give Shaun and excuse to wear his. Shaun refuses and John backs down, the two then head to bed after a goodnight kiss.
Introduction Arc[]
Five children gather at a table and drink a small cup of coffee. They say their duty as Living Dolls. While Billy's Team is clean, Ricky and Shaun seem to be arguing.
Phantom Incident Arc[]

John[]
John trusts Shaun and has a great liking to him. Though the Shadows House teach the "Faces" to be like their Shadows, John offered to wear glasses so that Shaun, who has bad eyesight, can wear them too.
Emilico[]
Emilico is Shaun's closest friend among the living dolls. They met when Emilico was trying to protect Mia from Barbie. Shaun was observing the scene closely and when Barbie was about to possibly hurt Emilico, he stepped in to protect her, even though he said that it was just because Barbie was getting on his nerves. They became closer during the night patrol, along side Rum and became great friends. At the debut, Shaun wanted to join Emilico. He is shown throughout the manga to think about Emilico quite a lot. He would often think "What would Emilico do in my situation?" With time, Shaun became protective towards her and is seen to be jealous towards Olly. Olly starts/tries to become close to her, due to his fascination of Emilico's high athletic ability.
Ricky[]
Ricky and Shaun knew each other because they were in the same cleaning team. They don't seem to like each other, but they don't hate each other either. Their arguments are rather childish but they know how to get along. The events of the debut made them reimagine things, leading to Shaun apologizing for thinking bad about Ricky on impulse, and Ricky showing his true emotions by crying and begging Shaun and John to take care of Patrick for him.
After the Debut, they didn't interact a lot. Though Shaun and Ricky bicker, they are still friends and somewhat care about each other.
Rum[]
Rum and Shaun get along pretty well. They met during the night patrol with Emilico. They considered each other as friends and wanted to meet again, alongside Emilico, after the Debut.
Etymology[]
- Shaun is a boy's name that is of Irish and Hebrew origin, meaning "God is gracious".
