Mia (ミア Mia?) is a supporting character in the Shadows House series. She is a Living Doll working as a maid in the Shadows House and as the "Face" of Sarah Shadow.

Appearance[]

Mia is a girl with slightly curled ash blonde hair that goes down to her shoulders and green eyes. She wears a maid dress reminiscent of the Victorian style, with dark sleeves and a white apron and skirt.

Personality[]

Mia is skilled at being a proper Face and won't hesitate to act rude to those she thinks of as friends when acting out Sarah's emotions. On her own, she is a caring and thoughtful person. She sticks up for her team, acting much like a big sister to those younger than her and tries to be as helpful as possible during cleaning. She believes she needs to be "bettered" for both her own sake, and Sarah's. Mia is somewhat selfish. Mia has mild masochistic tendencies, which show up in her relationship with Sarah.Under the influence of coffee, she believed in the absoluteness of the "house of shadows", which is why when Sarah had doubts about the "house of shadows", Mia immediately convinced her. Mia herself is a pretty good doll by the standards of the "house of shadows", she does her job well and does not think about unnecessary things.

Plot[]

Introduction Arc[]

Mia sees Emilico after she got stuck in the window, she then giggles at the situation and they greet one another. A day or so later, she formally introduces herself to Emilico when bringing her along to the Grand Cleaning, joking and asking questions about her and her Shadow. Upon getting to the main plaza, Mia introduces Lou and Rosemary who, alongside herself, are Emilico's new teammates on Rosemary's team. Mia joins in as Rosemary starts singing. She is also seen laughing at Emilico's condition after falling into the soot they'd gathered.

When Kate and Emilico are heading back after their excursion outside, Mia and Sarah blocks them. Mia acts as Sarah's face while she pesters and belittles Kate for showing herself outside before her Debut.

Phantom Incident Arc[]

Mia is seen at the Team's gathering for the newcomers' lesson. She, along with Rosemary guide both Emilico and Lou through the interior of the Children's Building, while lightly quizzing them about various things. After politely refusing to answer one of Emilico's questions, an emergency bell starts ringing to everyone's shock. With that, the lesson's cancelled as the team head back to prepare. In a panic, Mia asks Rosemary whether "those things" really existed, and gets an answer almost immediately as she sees the Phantom. They're unsure what to do until the present Star Bearer, Barbie, barks out an instruction to hit it. A Scorch escapes past her and Emilico, and she immediately turns to chase it, quickly followed by Emilico and the rest of her cleaning team. She tries to eliminate it, but fails as it lunges at Emilico, who is pushed away by Rosemary. She tells everyone to help her get it off, but is hindered as another Scorch merges with the one already attached to Rosemary. She watches, shocked, as it morphs into a spider and carries Rosemary up into a corner of the room, with the seeming intent to take her life. Mia is the first to act and yells that Rosemary's going to get hanged, running to support her by the ankles. Rosemary unwittingly begins kicking her, and Mia says she can't let her face get injured and is going to let go if Lou and Emilico can't think of a solution. They are both saved by Emilico throwing a flowerpot's worth of water at the combined Scorch.

Two days later[2], Mia fetches Emilico to go to the Washing Room. Emilico expresses concern for Rosemary, Mia brushes it off, saying she's fine because she's Rosemary, and then jokingly quoting something Mia thinks she'd say. Once there, they meet Lou and Mia tells her to go with another kid. In the bath, she gloats to Emilico about how she was brilliant from birth, contrary to Emilico who was illiterate, and lightly teases Emilico when she says Kate often gets mad. Once out of the bath, Mia rejoices the occasion, telling Emilico to expect lots of great things if her Shadow Master's status were to improve. And soon after they see that Lou had been paired with Rosemary, who had by this time recovered from Soot Sickness. Mia and Emilico laugh as Rosemary proceeds to recite, word for word, what Mia had predicted just beforehand.

She is visibly displeased with how Barbie is handling the situation, especially when she calls on Rosemary. Mia jumps in to fill for the older girl, coherently explaining that they weren't preperared to act on such short notice because of the Lesson. She is quickly made to shut up when Barbie kicks her in the stomach. She is seen covering her eyes as Emilico defends another Doll, not wanting to watch her get kicked too. Mia later condemns Barbie's actions, and also tells Emilico to watch out with Barbie as her Shadow is powerful.

The Debut Arc[]

Mia tells Emilico and Lou that neither she nor Rosemary knew about the Faulty Equipment; that the Star Bearers handle it, but Barbie must have been sleeping on the job. It's stated that at some point beforehand, she and Emilico had exchanged a map that helped immensely in Emilico's searches the previous nights. After saying goodbye to her teammates, she goes back to her room to see it's dirtied and covered in soot, with the doll Emilico made as thanks for the map ripped in half. Fastforward, we see Mia hand a wooden rod to Sarah, wordlessly telling Sarah to discipline her. She does, and Mia is beaten as Sarah says she shouldn't be playing around with a "Defective Doll" who hasn't even debuted yet, and that she only exists to make Sarah shine infront of Lord Grandfather.

Mia, alongside Sarah attends the celebration after the Debut.

Master Robe Arc[]

She attends the Team meeting with Sarah.

Mia is shocked at Rosemary's condition, and asks where she got all those Scorches from. In the midst of the following chaos, she praises Emilico for managing to smash one of the high-density Scorches, before being dragged into the path of one by Doug so he can save himself. She catches Soot Sickness and is then brought to the Washing Room offscreen.

She is shown to be okay when Emilico and Kate seek her out in order to explain the map she drew. Mia jumps out of her bed to hug Emilico, catching them both off-guard and thanks Emilico for checking up on her. Kate brings up the purpose of their visit and Mia is able to point out the oddity of what she didn't draw.

Phantom Incident Arc[]

Rosemary’s team met again. They pointed Emilico at things she didn't know yet. There was an emergency and Barbie ordered the Living Dolls to defeat the phantom. Soot spewed out at Rosemary and covered her face with soot. Mia tried to save her but Rosemary just kicked her. Emilico saved the two when she threw the pot full of water at them. The next day, Emilico took a bath with Mia. Emilico saw that there were marks on Mia's back. When it was over, they also saw that Lou was done and saw that Rosemary had recovered from soot sickness.

Barbie called all of the Living Dolls. Barbie said one of them was lazy to clean and said it caused the Phantom Incident. Barbie was angry with them because they let those scorches slip by. Mia explained that they were still training Emilico, the newest member of their team. Mia is annoyed with Barbie because of her treatment of the new Living Dolls.

The Debut Arc[]

Barbie called the Living Dolls and said that the Phantom Incident was caused by equipment failure. If they will slack off, it will happen again. Mia laughs at Barbie's look. Mia told Rosemary that even she didn't know about the soot equipment. The Star Bearers handle that but Barbie must have sleeping on that job.

When Mia said goodbye to her teammates, she went to her room and saw that her room was dirty and full of soot. Her mistress had gone through her room. Mia handed a metal rod to her Miss Sarah so that she could physically discipline her Living Doll, all because Sarah wanted to be a Star Bearer. Sarah said that Mia was only here to make her shine.

Relationships[]

Sarah[]

They both share a very strong desire to become an Adult and one of the higher ups.

Emilico[]

Mia on her own is very friendly towards Emilico, joking with and gladly helping with any doubts she could have during cleaning, coming across as an elder sister and role model. After Emilico is named a team leader however, she begins to show hints of jealously at being passed over despite being a longer-tenured member of the house.

Lou[]

Mia is friendly towards her, often praising her for being such a good Doll.

Rosemary[]

Mia sees her as a friend and, despite Rosemary's standing as Team Leader, an equal. Despite this, she doesn't seem particularly bothered when she's Invited, expressing excitement at the prospect of getting another newbie on- and getting promoted to leader of Cleaning Team 10.

Belle Twins[]

Loathing and disdain are the emotions Mia holds toward the twins, disliking them from the way they constantly suck up the Star Bearers and their treatment of other Living Dolls.

This is further soured when The Twins are demoted from Team Leaders are made to join the newly dubbed Emilico's Team after their Soot Pipes send-off punishment. Her resentment toward's the remaining Twin grows as she thinks she's in risk of being disposed off due to Belle's refusal to clean.

Etymology[]
